Woman Blames Pet Store For Anguish After Puppy Dies
Store Says Buyer Did Not Opt For Warranty
CINCINNATI -- A local woman is calling the past week one of her worst ever, and she is blaming a pet store at a Tri-State mall.
Store Says Buyer Didn't Get Warranty
Katherine Goff's boyfriend surprised her about a week ago with a puppy, but the dog she named Sammy died last weekend, WLWT Eyewitness News 5's Amy Wagner reported.
"He was this adorable Jack Russell terrier, brown and white," Goff said. "I picked him up and he started licking my face."
For Goff, it was love at first sight. But within hours of bring the puppy home, she realized something was wrong.
"He was really sick," she said. "He was vomiting. He had diarrhea. He'd go to sleep and I could barely wake him up."
Goff took Sammy to see veterinarian Dr. Paul Levitas.
"At the time, we did suspect parvo virus," Levitas said.
Dogs contract parvo virus from other dogs who have it. Puppies have weaker immune systems than adult dogs, which means they are particularly susceptible, Wagner reported.
"
It did most likely get the virus from exposure to other dogs at the store or on its way to the store," Levitas said. "That's usually what happens."
What happened to pronouns? The dog was male, right. Doesn't that make him a "he"?
In addition to the sorry Goff feltbecause of Sammy's death, she is upset because she won't be getting any help from the store where her boyfriend bought Sammy, All Paws in Northgate Mall, Wagner reported.
The SORRY? What does that mean?
Goff said she was told that the store could not do anything for her because a warranty was not purchased for Sammy.
A warranty? According to my dictionary, a warranty refers to goods or services.
The manager of All Paws declined to speak to WLWT on camera, but said the store is conducting its own investigation. That is of little comfort to Goff.
"When you buy a pet at a pet store, you never in a million years expect it to be sick," she said.
During the last two years, the Better Business Bureau has received eight similar complaints about All Paws, WLWT reported.
Experts recommend the following when purchasing a pet.
Avoid the urge to impulse buy.
Ask about all of the store's policies.
Request references.
Check with the better business bureau.
